[How To]

Yes/No. Venting about shit that happens in a game/bakerstreet is healthy, and I actually would be okay with a monthly thing. No. I don't agree with what some of the people on there do. And, I'm not the only one that does that uses the hate meme for what it originally was intended to do. To call out OOC assholes.

It's on the third hatecomm already and it's stronger than ever, even with the recent spamming over the mod banning hatespeech and slurs with an alternate comm made by people butthurt over the word bans. In any case, it keeps all the hate in one place and I rarely see people getting harassed for no reason. "Wank is nothing without deets" and usually if someone can't provide actual proof for what they're saying they're told to fuck off. The only reason the last one was shut down was because someone that was namedropped posted their own personal information and the mod wasn't able to get to it fast enough.

I know this isn't going to change any minds and I'm not going to pretend that the people there do some kind of great service by saying who to avoid or whatever because that's stupid and a lot of it is complaining over BS. But I don't think the hatecomm is as horrible and awful as everyone makes it out to be. People there don't decide to just arbitrarily pick on someone for no reason.

Like hell they don't. I've seen fake deets and sameanoning to make it look like more than one person has a problem with something and no one told to fuck off for it.

The place needs to die. DW should stop letting them live in that 'gray zone' that's the only thing keeping them from being nuked from orbit.

When I said "no reason" I mean no reason. They don't just pick a person at random and decide oh we don't like this person let's shit all over them.

Like you said someone provided deets. I'm not saying that providing fake deets was okay to do because it's not. If someone you know if being harassed or is having stuff posted about them that's obviously not true, go to the comm's mods. Hateboner is actually a pretty cool mod, if you're honest with him. Or even, though you seem like you would be reluctant to do so (and I understand why), post actual deets. A friend of mine was namedropped and had fake deets posted about them until some people who ACTUALLY knew them posting conflicting information. Deets were provided but the namedropper didn't post any evidence in the form of caps or pastebins.

I will concede that more than a few namedrops are ONE person who has grudgewank against someone, but in those cases most people don't even give a shit because the grugewanker fails to provide actual evidence to back up their deets.

Less frequent anon posts were more the thing a few years back and in retrospect I did prefer them. Sure, there was the impending sense of dread but the way things are working now means that there is a constant space for people to nitpick at stuff that really isn't a big deal in a bid to make it a big deal.

That said, people like to moan about shit though so whether there's a meme for it or not doesn't matter because people gossip. The thing people don't like about anon spaces is that it's out in the open to see as opposed to tucked away behind people's backs in IMs/private plurks. It's not that the acts don't happen, it's about the visibility, for my money.

My issue with the anon community is that it's highly public, so instead of two or three people from your game gossiping about you, it's everyone in all of DWRP, so people who before would never know about what you did can now see it an get to judge you, and also, while people will always complain about something, I do feel like the constant low-level vitriol at wankgate encourages people to bitch and "vent" about things that wouldn't have occurred to them as a problem before they spent so much time in such a negative environment.

I'm not someone who thinks all anons are evil. Obviously, or I wouldn't be anon now. I'm someone who used to spend a lot of time at wankgate until I realized it was making me miserable and killing my RP drive. You might say "so don't go there", well, I don't anymore. But I would bet I'm not the only one in this boat and tbh I think the RP community would be better off going back to having a once-every-two-months anon meme. I don't think that's likely to happen, but I do think it would be for the best.

I also think we could use some central space to hang out that isn't anon, or at least isn't a hate community. I don't think a hate community being the central area where RPers hang out and socialize is a good thing.
