Come now, look around you: how many of the crawling denizens of Paris may claim to bath on a regular basis? I am living as a man of the people... In this respect, at least. Call me a man of empathy, call me an emblem of the revolution.

And in any case, what a bore it is, and what a waste. The cleverest of women adores a man unkempt and are invariably enamored as soon as she catches sight of him. Besides, I have such words! To whom will I give them if I amble off to groom myself into a handsome man (which, I assure you, is an impossibility)? Who knows what gems may be missed, finding only the recourse of my own dull ears. What a tragedy I should create!

Unless, of course, you would care to accompany me. In which case, yes, I believe I will have that bath, after all.
