In our world the Goddess had named our two races, we the Laguz, and who you would call humans, Beorc. It was only later in our history that Beorc chose to start calling themselves human to further separate themselves from we Laguz, calling us hated names like sub-humans and half-breeds. Nearly all Laguz were enslaved to humans at the time of this occurrence, and as such we took to calling them Humans as an insult out of spite. Human is the word we Laguz associate as everything wrong with your species.

Does that help clarify things to you Anon?

Uh...

I don't follow. So Beorc are humans like me, while Laguz are humans like you, and Laguz were slaves to Beorc, so Beorc saw Laguz as less than human, so Laguz saw Beorc as less than human? No, that's not right. All these fantasy terms are confusing me.

The only time I ever eat humans is if they're tying to kill me. They aren't usually the most appetizing of dishes. Though I have had one or two humans ask me to eat them, but I assume that was their way of joking.

[Or flirting, but that tends to go way over Lethe's head.]

[ Lethe's revelation hits Anon while Anon is speculating on Lethe's peak running speed and jaw strength. Anon falls to their knees -- their hands are still in their pockets. ]

This surprises you? Humans have been enslaving Laguz for centuries, isn't it only natural that there might still be feuding and bloodshed between our two races? I happen to be Captain of Gallia's border guards, and as such I come into conflict with humans even more than many of my brethren.

You're under the mistaken impression that I'm from where you're from. I don't know anything about this - I haven't heard about it, and where I live it's actually pretty peaceful. [ In a manner of speaking. ]

As I understand it, Japanese is a nationality, not a species. I am a Gallian, but that does not mean that I am not a Laguz, and that you are not a Beorc. I am not saying that your world's Beorc are responsible, I simply question whether or not they would have acted differently than the humans of our own world if put into the same situation.

[ It's getting too philosophical for Anon's tastes. And Anon's just a bundle of unexamined bias.

So in your world Laguz and Beorc are two species of talking humanoid? [ They're pretty careful with this word. ] In other words, Gallian, the nationality, can be shared by both?

That is more or less correct, although admittedly there aren't too many citizens of Gallia who are Beorc, there were a few of them that even I considered to be friends.

So this Gallia place is mostly made up of Laguz like you.

There are 5 Laguz nations and 3 Beorc Nations on the continent of Telius. Gallia, Serenes, Kilvas, Phonecis and Goldoa are the Laguz Nations, while Crimea, Daein and Begnion are the Beorc nations.
