How can you be friends with a tool like Barry Allen? I know people sing him praises from here to heaven but he's kind of a sadistic ass.

I could sit here trying to argue this with you through all eternity about how Barry isn't this or that. (Which he isn't, sorry to say you have a different opinion than I do.) But I'm not going to.

I'm not sure what you did to him, or what he did to you. But you probably deserved it.

Considering one of his favorite tricks was to take the guy who was terrified of heights and haul him up and hang him off the ground as high as he could go just so he could laugh at his terror? We definitely have a differing opinion.

Wally is a lot less of an ass, that's all I'm saying. [Of course, the fact that he was friends with Wally partly colored Piper's opinion here.]

That obvious, but if there's something you should know about Barry, it's that he doesn't do anything without a very good reason. He's the kind of guy who tries to do everything by the books. And if he rebels, well, I guess you could say that's probably my fault. I'm a bad influence on the man.

I'm just curious to know what you did to him.

I'm not saying Trickster or even I didn't deserve it but there's certain lines you shouldn't cross and he regularly did.

Oh, I used to be one of his Rogues. You know, the one with the silly polka dot costume? [Piper had to good grace to look chagrined when he admitted that.] I'm not anymore, of course. Because otherwise talking to a bona fide cape would be kind of...stupid.

Well, I have nothing for you. Barry's been nothing but good to me, despite everything that's happened.

I figured you were one of his rogues. I've heard of you. [Then again, everyone's at least heard of each other in this universe...]

Must be nice. I've got nothing against the other Flashes. Hell, I count Wally as one of my closest friends but Barry Allen was just...a jerk. Not saying the Rogues were angels or anything but we had a code of ethics and honor and Mr. High and Mighty enjoyed taking us apart a little too much for a goody-two shoes cape.

[The copper-haired former-Rogue could only shrug a little uncomfortably. He wasn't ashamed of his past but he was attempting to make the system better from the inside rather than out.] Ex-Rogues.

Can't really think up of a reason why, and I can't really pretend to know why. But we can all change, can't we?

Right, Ex-Rogues. My mistake. Otherwise, we wouldn't really be having a civilized conversation.

[Unperturbed by the implied sarcasm, the Pied Piper offered Hal a bland look.] When we're not getting beat up on some of the Rogues can actually be pretty good conversationalists. They definitely aren't as judgmental as most capes.

[Well, some of them hadn't been exactly accepting when they'd found out Hartley was homosexual but he'd come to accept that from the world at large.]

Hey I'm taking your word for it, even though it sure seems like we're talking about two different people here. Two sides of the same coin and all of that. It's clear your experiences with him obviously have not been the same as mine.

[Hal crosses his arms at Hartley, still a little confused to the way he's describing Barry. Though, he's not dismissing Hartley's assessment on the guy. He's just having a hard time believing it.]

It's just a case of the shoe being on the wrong foot. Though I guess you never had to face that Reverse Flash guy or Inertia.

[That had the musician's mouth turning downwards in a frown. He'd never liked Inertia but he was sorry the Rogues had to kill him. Still, he'd been a monster and would have killed everyone indiscriminately.]

I guess not, though I've more likely been busy with my own things. I'm guessing I wouldn't have wanted to.

You really don't. Inertia was a complete monster. Think an evil clone of Bart Allen. But without any of the kid's warmth or kindness.

[A troubled look flickered across the former villain's face when he spoke of Bart Allen.] Either way, all around bad news though word on the grapevine is you have plenty of amoral bad guys of your own to occupy your time.

Yeah, I guess you could say that. Every cape usually has one or two. Sometimes five.

[He happily let the subject of Inertia drop. Thinking about that troubled young man always left Piper with a bad taste in his mouth.]Batman's enemies. [Piper unthinkingly used 'we' instead of 'them'. It didn't matter that it been a while since he'd been a Rogue. It didn't even matter that he was trying to stay on the straight and narrow. At the end of the day, once a Rogue, always a Rogue as some people said. Barry Allen included.]
