The Meet And Greet Meme For Characters

The Meet and Greet Meme
For Characters

This is the IC version of the The Role Call Meme

[The Rules]

1. Find the thread for the canons/fandoms of your character. If you don't see one, make one!

2. Post with all of your character accounts. Yes, all of them. Throwing in your entire musebox is totally fine in this meme. (Please write down the name and canon/fandom of the character in the subject line, and also if they're canon, AU, crossover or OC, etc.)

3. AU characters are totally OK. Crossover/fusion characters may post at all the fandoms/canons their crossover/fusion is derived from. Fandom OCs may post at their fandom/canon's thread. Original Story/Universe OCs will have their own thread.

4. Tag around all over the place - Canonmates, non-canonmates, everything is OK!

"Ah, Miss Page," a wild salmon canapé held between thumb and forefinger, "I am glad you could make it to the fundraiser for the families of the slain police officers. It's so terrible what happened." Waving in the direction of a staff member carrying a tray of wine glasses, "Have you had a sample of the varietal wines donated to the event?"

Playing hostess and putting people at ease is a natural place for her.

So sorry for the late reply, life has been crazy.

"Thank you for the invite, I had not been expecting it," she said honestly, but she gave the other woman a tentative smile. "It is, and a shame how it all happened," though Karen never believed, not for one second, that the Devil of Hell's Kitchen had any part in it.

"No, I haven't. I just got here," she said honestly. "What type of wines do they have?" Karen was no expert on wines, so she would defer to Vanessa for some help.

Very! I just heaved a giant completed project out the door.

Truth be told most of the legal community was there to show their support, from nearly all legal firms large to small were represented, along with judges, clerks, and governmental officials high and low, state and local. Vanessa did know how to throw a party and whom to invite.

Hearing the hesitation, however so slight, Vanassa whispered conspiratorially, "Don't you hate it when all you hear is the winery's name and get a snooty raised eyebrow, as if to say if you don't know what they're talking about then you're not worth a glass?" She knew how to fit herself to the audience, a social chameleon. "Tell me, do you like sweet like dessert or dry that leaves a snap of a tart granny smith apple on your tongue?"

Good for you! <3

Karen let out a short laugh at her comment about snooty raised eyebrows, and then she nodded her head. "Yes, that is why I drink scotch," she said warmly.

When Vanessa brought up what types of wine Karen liked, she had to think about it for a little bit. "Something sweet, something that is sweet, but not 'going to rot your teeth out' sweet," she answered in that same conspiratorial manner.

"A Riesling," not a Muscat. "That we can find. But don't get me wrong," practically grinning, "There's nothing like a good scotch and a splash of water to open up the flavors... Mmmm, but not tonight."

Guiding the young woman without seeming to do so, they stopped in front of the wine bar. Vanessa ordered two Rieslings from a foreign vinter, and signed off on her tab. Perfectly chilled golden liquid was poured into spotless glasses. As if to show Karen how to do it, Vanessa gave the wine a swirl then sniffed it, breathing deeply. "Oh that's a good one," flirting with the staff through lowered lashes. "Give it a try, Karen. If this isn't it, we'll try another."

"I've heard of them before, but never tried it. I guess I wanted to try it when it was a special time, and tonight feels like that kind of a time," she said in a warm tone. Walking just slightly behind Vanessa as they made it to the bar.

Karen watched Vanessa intently, how she flirted, what she did, this woman was very engaging. Taking the glass that was offered to her, Karen leaned over, and attempted to sniff it, but gave up when she realized she had no idea what she was doing, so she let out a laugh. Clearing her throat, she nodded, "okay, here goes nothing," she said in a bright voice, then she took a slow sip of it. Savoring the wine on her tongue for a moment or two, when she swallowed, she looked over to Vanessa in a bit of shock. "It's perfect, thank you," she put her hand on Vanessa's arm.

"Good!" returning the smile. Again her voice lowered confidentially, the 'secret' something she wouldn't share with just anyone. "Don't let anyone here fool you, most can't tell a screwtop wine from a boxed wine from a nice bottled vintage. Besides," laughter threading through the accented tones, "The boxed wines are nice when living alone because air doesn't get in and alter the flavor. If you find something you like, drink it. And if you find one you don't like, as Julie Child said, 'As you get older, you shouldn't waste time drinking bad wine'."

"Now," looking out over the crowd as they turned away from the bar, "Who would you like be be introduced to? Any handsome or wealthy people catch your eye? You are Karen Page after all, a mysterious blond who has charmed their favorite purveyor of the arts. For weeks I will be asked who you are. What shall I tell them?" Teasing lightly, "An heiress? A sculptor? A breeder of racehorses?"

[personal profile] investigador 2015-06-12 05:19 pm (UTC)(link)
"Ah, I see. Well, I like a good boxed wine, it never gave me any trouble before," she said with a light laugh. Looking around the room at all the people. "Well, Julie Child seems like a very wise woman, and I shall take that advice to heart," she said firmly, smiling toward Vanessa.

Her next question blows her mind, it was like opening Pandora's box, and Karen wasn't sure if she wanted to go there? "Well, there is one guy, but I don't think he knows I exist that way. Here? Gee, I don't know. I mean, it is really hard to choose," she said shyly.

"That's the beauty of it, my dear, you don't have to choose. Think of a party as window shopping, a little cobweb of a dream, nothing more. How would I look with that draped around my shoulders? Is it too form fitting? Too loose? Does it come in my favorite color?" Letting Karen in on another secret, "It is what they're all thinking in their various ways, just a game that some play for fun and others quite seriously, looking for ways to get ahead. Everyone wants something and right now some of them want to know who you are and what we're talking about that makes us laugh as we survey what is on offer. Are we talking about them? Admiring them? A thought that makes them stand taller, straightening shoulders? Or are we mocking their enemies. They are the stars of their own movies, the camera always on them, showing the world from their point of view." Lips quirk, another smile in the wings, "We are only co-stars from their perspective, while in actuality we are the protagonists in our own movies."

[personal profile] investigador 2015-06-13 05:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Karen lets out a laugh, shaking her head. She never thought of things like that, and it made her look around the room with new found appreciation. "I see what you are saying, but these people must be so bored that they need to play such games," she said genuinely, not wanting to insult anyone here.

Karen was a simple creature, some beer, or some scotch, a good movie, or a good book, maybe some friends, a little daydreaming about a certain someone, working hard, and doing it all again. That was her life, so looking at the people that had money, and time, and hearing how they got by. It kind of blew her mind a little.

"I think you've just blown my mind a little," she said honestly.
cannotbebought: (Some Things Are Not What They Appear)

[personal profile] cannotbebought 2015-06-15 06:05 am (UTC)(link)
Summed up the majority of the attendees in these words, "They shop for clothes, shoes, yes even art, because they are bored and searching for contentment. Vainly hoping that the things they buy will make that feeling last, but it never does. Most are unhappy in their marriages, ones that may have started with infatuation, but that too is temporary. They're together because of harsh conditions in prenuptial contracts or because of young children, fighting and bickering behind closed doors, or worse, cold and distant. They may agree to look the other way for temporary liaisons, as long it's nothing too blatant." Vanessa shook her head, "Games and money are all they really have."

Amended, "Although there are notable exceptions and they don't need to be here to have influence."

"Wow," she had thought that being so rich would have had a lot of pros and cons, but hearing what she was saying right now made Karen's head spin. "I guess there are more cons, then pros in these sorts of lives, which is sad. I'd rather be broke, and happy, then rich, and unhappy," she said with a shake of her head.

"I guess money is not all that it is cracked up to be," she said finally. "How do you know so much about all of these people? I mean, do they confide in you? Or do you hear things? I mean, how do they do it, and how do you know it? It all seems like a giant ball of string that just got jumbled together, and can never get unjumbled," she said with a sigh.
cannotbebought: (Shadows That Follow)

[personal profile] cannotbebought 2015-06-20 06:58 am (UTC)(link)
"I watch and listen. It doesn't take being in their homes to see what happens behind closed doors. The glances they give their current lover are self-evident as are the ones to their current spouse. Money is not happiness, a little can help, but too much...it defines them, confines them, causes them to search for a purpose that is not fulfillment in their marriage or a job, which they no longer need to have." Confessed, "At one time, I played the game, searched for a happiness I learned they could not give me. Very few would be contented with an evening of reading a book, sipping a drink and just being quiet together. If they have such a difficult time accepting themselves, then in the end, they cannot fully accept the qualities of others."

"Now," clearing her throat, "I did not mean to make you depressed, but you should know, if you play, do it because it is fun for you, not because you hope to find anyone to keep. Should you find that one loyal person, keep them because they are a rarity."

Karen smiled warmly at the other woman, raising her glass toward her for a moment, "you are very wise," she said warmly.

"You see more, know more than I do. I just look around and see a bunch of self important people who want to snub their nose at you, or they want to step on your while they try to get to the next, great step," she said in an unsure, unsteady tone of voice. Shaking her head, she sighed and took a drink from her wine. "Though your plan sounds nice, reading a book, sitting at home, just being near on another," she said with a sigh.

"I am not sure, I don't think this is my kind of scene. I mean, I would love some money. I would. But, not at this expense. It doesn't seem worth it, it seems like such a hollow life. I want a life that means something, that's done something wonderful," she offers candidly.
