To your first question, the answer boils down to two factors. The first, unfortunately, was a lack of supplies. At that point in the war, it was still two years before we had ready access to both rescue staves and master seals. What few we had, we'd expended at that point. The second, which renders the first a moot point, is that none of our soldiers at the time had the magic to reach Lady Emmeryn's position with a staff. To this day, I still have no idea how Flavia could throw an axe that high.
To your second, while I can't speak for any possible alternate versions of myself, I was a swordmaster at the time, as I was through most of that particular conflict. I suspect that had more to do with not being in complete control than what supplies I had access to. Regardless, if there was any way to avoid stabbing my own husband entirely, rest assured that it would have been taken.
Regrettably, I have no easy answer to the third question, although you overestimate both the strength of a union of two nations that were still recovering years later, and the ease of taking political control of an entire subcontinent. Our own nations had to be our first priority, and all things considered, the idea of a worse king than Gangrel was rather far-fetched at the time, if not in hindsight.
Hope this helps,
Robin.

(Anonymous) 2015-01-04 08:20 am (UTC)(link)You have indeed listed some practical points, though I wonder if perhaps Phila might have been capable of using rescue staff to save Emmeryn. In flight, she would have been close enough to do so, and the Pegasus knights could have served as her shield. It is a more brutal tactic as it leaves the pegasi knight's lives on the line to protect her, but it might have worked. Regardless, I understand that rescue staves were in very low supply, as were those capable of wielding them at such great distances.
As to my second question, you've answered that implicitly, and I suspect Chrom's guard was likely down even further given that you are his wife.
While you are likely correct in that you needed to repair the home front before you could worry about foreign affairs, I still have to say it was sloppy at best. Agents should have been put in place to make sure that another king like Gangrel wouldn't come to power. Perhaps having Plegia becoming a part of Ylisse and Regna Ferox was a bit overly ambitious, but keeping designated officials to watch over the kingdom you just conquered is warfare 101.
You are a brilliant tactician Robin, possibly one of the most brilliant, but I fear you are not always the greatest of strategists.

(Anonymous) 2015-01-04 09:09 am (UTC)(link)I just wanted to apologize if I came off as overly harsh. I don't mean to fault you for what happened, because if anything Basilio, Flavia, and Chrom also share a great deal of the blame being the leaders of your respective nations. Nobody is perfect, and we all are going to make mistakes that we learn from. That's one of the reasons I respect you as a tactician, because you're always trying to read up on whatever you can get your hands on. You're not only learning from your own mistakes, but trying to learn from the mistakes and successes of others.
